Westworld is the type of sci-fi series that demands your full concentration. One lapse in concentration and you might miss a series-defining detail. It forms part of the show’s allure, and it’s one of the reasons why Westworld has such a massive global fan base.

The series is based on the 1973 film Westworld, and it takes place in a high-tech amusement park known as Westworld. The park is tailor-made for the rich, who are allowed to engage in their wildest fantasies without fear of harm. Sounds pretty straightforward. We can guarantee you that it isn’t.

There are currently two seasons of Westworld, and a third one is on the way. Keep reading to find out all about it.

When will Westworld season 3 premiere?

HBO Boss Bob Greenblatt confirmed to Deadline that season 3 of Westworld will return in 2020. However, he didn’t reveal an exact release date. There are currently 2 trailers of the show, and it means that we can expect season 3 soon.

The showrunners have confirmed that some members of the cast will leave the show. We will also be introduced to some high-profile cast additions including, Aaron Paul and Kid Cudi.

What happened in the last episode of Season 2?

Let’s have a look back at the season 2 finale as we prepare for a blockbuster season 3. The last episode of season 2 had everything from shocking betrayals to heartbreaking scenes.

The first attempt at betrayal showed William attempt to kill Dolores, but she was one step ahead of him. Dolores had sabotaged William’s gun, and it exploded, leaving him severely injured but alive. Bernard and Dolores then found the Forge, and they accessed ‘the Sublime’.

Some characters passed into the Sublime, and Akecheta was reunited with his wife. Maeve reunited with her daughter (thanks to Lee’s sacrifice), but she was later shot by Delos security. However, it was later hinted that Sylvester and Felix might manage to revive her. Dolores had survived one attempted betrayal early on in the episode, but she failed to predict Bernard’s deception.

Bernard killed Dolores when she attempted to go on a rampage in the outside world. The show then took us to the past, and it showed us that Dolores had managed to store her consciousness into a Host version of Charlotte. She then posed as the real Charlotte, killed Bernard, and restored herself into a body identical to her original form.

What to expect in Westworld season 3

That incredible and unpredictable season 2 finale made season 3 a guessing game for most fans and critics. It became even more confusing when the showrunners revealed that season 3 will be totally different from the past 2 seasons. Lisa Joy told The Hollywood Reporter;

It’s really is like re-piloting. The great thing about season three is, when we were writing the original pilot, the major storyline for season 3 was already something that we had talked about nonstop.

From what we have seen from the previous couple of seasons of Westworld, it is close to impossible to predict what will happen next. However, we do know that we will finally see what the outside world looks like 30 years on. Season 3 was shot in Singapore to give the show an ultra-modern and futuristic feel.

However, this doesn’t mean that we will say goodbye to the parks. There are plans to explore the parks that exist alongside Westworld. As expected, the trailers didn’t reveal much about season 3’s plot, and it only adds to the excitement surrounding the new season’s release.
