Izuku Midoriya, also known as Deku, is the main star of the My Hero Academia anime and manga series. The Quirkless Deku managed to catch the attention of legendary hero All Might due to his heroism and sense of justice. Deku has since become All Might’s close pupil. All Might passed on his Quirk to Deku, making Deku the ninth holder of One for All.

The allure of anime and mangas are the fight scenes and cool powers, but we are also intrigued by the crushes that develop between the characters. Being the main character, Deku’s sexuality is constantly the subject of interest.

Deku’s sexual orientation has not been explored on the anime

Deku’s sexual orientation remains a mystery.

The hero might be straight, bisexual, gay, or even asexual, but the show is yet to address it. He is close to several characters of different genders, but he is yet to display a romantic interest in any of them.

Therefore, we cannot conclusively say that Deku is gay or even define his sexuality in any way. On 1st April 2020, YouTuber KANJIC, who is an anime fan and commentator, posted a video with the following heading: “Deku confirmed to be gay in My Hero Academia!” Don’t be misled by the video as KANJIC posted it as an April Fools prank.

Fans are calling for gay storylines to be added to My Hero Academia

Per a video posted by KANJIC in early August 2020, fans are spamming the My Hero Academia’s creators to incorporate gay characters into the storyline.

“People flooded his social media with spam, so they can get the creator to make specific characters in gay relationships with each other,” KANJIC narrated in the video. KANJIC stated that he isn’t against having gay characters in My Hero Academia, but spamming the creators is a step too far.

“Let him do whatever the hell he wants,” KANJIC states. “Stop trying to force stuff on him.”
