Yung Miami, one-half of the hip-hop duo City Girls, told The Cut that she wouldn’t trade her success for anything. “I wouldn’t trade nothing,” she said. “Because I felt like it’s my destiny. This is what God wants for me. I just feel you got to learn how to deal with it.”

Yung Miami was born Caresha Romeka Brownlee on 11th February 1994 to Keenya Young in Miami, Florida. Her father’s identity is a mystery. Nevertheless, he attended Keenya’s surprise birthday party in late August 2023 and seemed to get along with Keenya and Yung Miami.

The rapper grew up in some of Miami’s toughest neighborhoods. She idolized her godmother, Trina. “I was like, Oh my God. I want to be that,” Yung Miami told The Cut. “We went to the Dade County Fair, and people were going up to her and taking pictures with her. People were stopping her, we could barely get food. I was like, I want to be rich and famous.”

Yung Miami said she doesn’t want her daughter raised as she was. “I want her raised totally different. I don’t even want her to see the light of day like that. Like I just really want her to be like, level-headed, a school girl and just on a whole other wave,” Yung Miami said, per Essence

“I kinda was raised different, so I don’t wanna raise her up like how I was raised. You know I’m a city girl, ain’t nothing wrong with it, but I don’t want that for my daughter,” the rapper added.

Yung Miami’s mom spent five years in prison after pleading guilty to vehicular homicide

Per the Miami Herald, Keenya was charged with reckless driving resulting in serious bodily harm, armed robbery, vehicular homicide, and first-degree felony murder following a robbery gone wrong. Prosecutors alleged that Keena accidentally struck and killed a security guard after stealing Juicy Couture and Michael Kors handbags at a Macy’s outlet.

Keenya was sentenced to five years in prison and ten years probation. A day before Keenya’s release, Yung Miami tweeted about the impact of her arrest. “My Mom left me with 2 kids plus Jai I was 22 going on 23 I didn’t know what to do I had to figure it out. Look at me now God is so good,” Yung Miami tweeted

Keenya briefly made headlines in May 2022 after seemingly shooting her shot at Lil Baby. Fans interpreted her heart-eye emoji comment under a Lil Baby Instagram post as flirting. Keenya shot down the rumors, claiming she had no romantic interest in Lil Baby. She wrote on Instagram:

“No I am not feeling Lil Baby. I will never disrespect him like that or [Quality Control] my daughter is part of that label what the [fuck] I look like? I don’t play that period! A heart eye emoji for me is just a like I put under everybody picture! I’m sorry if that’s how you see it or took it.”
