Bob Lee’s father, Rick Lee, had the unenviable task of announcing to the world that the Cash App founder had passed away following a knife attack in San Francisco. Bob was stabbed in the early hours of 4th April 2023, in the city’s ritzy Rincon Hill neighborhood.

Rick Lee posted a heartbreaking tribute to his departed son on Facebook, calling Bob his best friend. The elder Lee wrote that he moved in with Bob after his wife and Bob’s mother died in 2019. Bob and Rick moved to Miami in October 2022, Rick noted. He added:
“Life has been an adventure with two bachelors living together, and I’m so happy that we were able to become so close these last years. Bob would give you the shirt off his back. He would never look down on anyone and adhered to a strict no-judgment philosophy.”
Rick described Bob as a hard worker and the most intelligent person he’d ever encountered. “He will be missed by all those that knew him,” Rick wrote. “Thank you to those who have reached out in support.”
Bob’s brother, Tim Oliver Lee, posted the following tribute on Facebook: “I’m so saddened and disheartened to lose my brother. He really was the best of us. I was so fortunate to grow up with him, and I feel like I’ve lost part of myself. Thank you to everyone who has reached out and offered condolences.”
