Gloria Bell is an English language remake of the 2013 Spanish language drama, Gloria. Both films were written and directed by Sebastián Lelio.
Gloria Bell premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, 2018, and it was released in the United States by A24. Julianna Moore plays the title character. In the original, Paulina Garcia played Gloria.
This movie is about a woman in her late 50’s who has been divorced for 10 years and works at an office job by day and goes out dancing at night. It chronicles her romance with Arnold, played by John Turturro, a man she met at a bar, who is recently divorced and in a dysfunctional relationship with his adult daughters.
This remake is very similar to the original. Even though it is in a different language, with different actors, and set in a different city, the storyline is almost exactly the same. Gloria Bell has received excellent reviews, receiving an aggregate score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. Most critics were highly impressed by the performance of Julianne Moore. Some critics have even said that it is her best film so far.
Fans of the original reported being a little disconcerted by the remake because the familiar characters are being played by other people. Gloria Bell is also a bit more comedic than the original. On the hand, they still seemed to enjoy the movie. Most critics also enjoyed the dancing and the disco soundtrack.
Will Gloria Bell Come to Netflix?
You may be wondering if you will be able to see Gloria Bell on Netflix at some point.
As of now, it seems likely that Gloria Bell will come to Netflix sometime in the future.
Gloria Bell is being distributed by A24. A24 is a relatively new indie distribution company that was founded in 2012. They do have deals with DirectTV Cinema and Amazon Prime. They have also recently entered into a contract with Apple in the Fall of 2018. It seems like that contract is to create original content for Apple. None of these contracts are exclusive, however, so that keeps the door open for Netflix to acquire streaming rights to Gloria Bell.
Another promising sign is that just this past Fall, A24 released 26 of its films to Netflix for streaming. These films include:

- While We’re Young (2015)
- The Rover (2014)
- Life After Beth (2014)
- Revenge of the Green Dragons (2014)
- Amy (2015)
- The Adderall Diaries (2016)
Given this recent influx of films from A24 to Netflix, it looks promising that Gloria Bell will also come at some point. Nothing is certain, however, and if it does come, it is impossible to say when.
