A boy with Down’s Syndrome runs away from a nursing home to follow his dream of becoming a professional wrestler. This is the premise behind the film, The Peanut Butter Falcon, which will be coming out for a limited release in theaters on August 9, 2019.
This film premiered at South by Southwest on March 9, 2019, and it now being distributed by Roadside Attractions, which specializes in indie movies.
The main character, Zak, is played by Zack Gottsagen. He was discovered at an acting camp for people with disabilities by Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwartz, who wrote the screenplay and directed this film. Apparently, Gottsagen has been studying and practicing in order to become an actor since he was three years old.
In this film, Zak finds Tyler, who owns a small boat, and is played by Shia LaBeouf. They are later joined by Eleanor, played by Dakota Johnson. Eleanor works at the nursing home where Zak escaped from and has been charged with getting him back there.
The Peanut Butter Falcon has gotten excellent reviews. It has received an aggregate score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. It has been termed a “modern Mark Twain style adventure.” While the plot is similar to many other mismatched buddy films, reviewers have been especially impressed by the performances of the cast and the chemistry between them.
This name of this film comes from the wrestling name that Zak decides to take as a part of his aspirations to attend a wrestling school.
Will The Peanut Butter Falcon come to Netflix in the future?
Sometimes, we know with relative certainty whether a movie will come to Netflix. In the case of The Peanut Butter Falcon, the situation is not as clear.
Still, it is unlikely that The Peanut Butter Falcon will come to Netflix.
When it comes to obtaining streaming rights for films when they leave theaters, Netflix must negotiate with the distribution company. Some distribution companies have contracts with Netflix. Some have contracts with other streaming companies.
Apparently, Roadside Attractions has a relationship with the cable channel Epix. There was a time when films went from Epix to Netflix. Presently, however, Epix sends many of its films to Hulu. Indeed, there are currently quite a few films from Roadside Attractions that are available for streaming on Hulu.
Given this, it is quite likely that The Peanut Butter Falcon will go to Hulu rather than Netflix.
