Ozark is one of Netflix’s most successful original series. The series provides an engaging insight into the world of drug cartels and money laundering. The show has been so successful that it has been likened to the super successful Breaking Bad.

The show shares some characteristics with Breaking Bad, but it has some unique parts as well. There have been two seasons of Ozark, and a 3rd season has been announced.

When will Netflix release Ozark season 3?

It has been officially confirmed that season 3 will premiere on 27th March 2020.

Filming for season 3 concluded in October 2019, and we had been patiently waiting for a premiere announcement. Thankfully, we only have to wait a few months before Netflix takes us back to the Ozarks.

Read on to refresh your memory about season 2, and what we expect to happen in season 3.

What happened in season 2?

Ozark is a show about a money-laundering accountant that is forced to flee to the Lake of the Ozarks to help launder a huge amount of cash for a dangerous drug dealer. However, he quickly learns that the Lake of the Ozarks isn’t the quiet neighborhood that it looks like from the outside.

Season 2 began by addressing the cliffhanger in season 1. Marty has to deal with a dead body, and he has the best crew to help him. However, he tries to take control of the cartel’s body dumping operation, but kingpin Jacob puts him in his place.

Marty and his family also continue to find out that Ozark isn’t the best place to set up a money laundering scheme. The crime families at Ozark all want a piece of the pie, and Marty has to form unlikely alliances to stay alive. Marty is now fully part of the criminal underworld at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Marty’s new scheme to launder money involves building a casino. To do that, he enlists the help of fast-talking lawyer, Helen Pierce. A casino is definitely a great way to launder money, but how successful will it be for Marty?

What to expect in Ozark season 3?

Season 2’s finale saw the launch of Marty’s casino, which is expected to launder millions of dollars for the cartel. Jason Bateman revealed at the Emmy’s that Ozark season 3 will start off six months after the events of season 2’s finale.

We will get to see whether the casino was successful over that period. We will also get to see the resolution of Cade Langmore’s murder plot. It will make things interesting for Marty and the crew because the investigation will attract law enforcement.

Female empowerment was a recurring theme in season 2, and we expect a greater emphasis on the issue in season 3. We will see more of Ruth Langmore as she helps run Marty’s casino. However, the show’s writer Chris Mundy revealed that it might turn out to be a mistake for her. He told The Hollywood Reporter;

“Ruth is more and more self-confident, but she is grateful to Marty for being the first person to believe in her and give her responsibilities. Going into season three, we see her very much wanting to be a member of the Bryde family. However, as she gets deeper and deeper into the enterprise, she starts to wonder if being a Byrde is the best thing to be.”

Season 2 also saw more violence and deception than in season 1. Hopefully, we will see more of that violence in season 3.
