The Sun Is Also a Star came out in theaters on May 17, 2019, by Warner Bros Pictures. This movie is about Natasha Kingsley, a young quantum physics student played by Yara Shahidi, who enters into a romantic relationship with a Daniel Bae, a young exchange student played by Charles Melton. They face a problem, however. Natasha’s family is facing deportation.

In the book, the reason for the deportation is that Natasha’s father gets a DUI. In the movie, he is discovered to be an undocumented immigrant by a random ICE raid at his workplace. Apparently, they did not want to reinforce stereotypes about African Americans being alcoholics. They worked with a consultant who was an immigration lawyer in order to do justice to this part of the story.

The Sun Is Also a Star bombed during its debut weekend at the box office. It only made $2.5 million, which was one of the worst openings ever considering that it played in over 2,000 theaters.

Despite its terrible showing at theaters, The Sun Is Also a Star, got mixed reviews. It received an aggregate score of 52% on Rotten Tomatoes. While this is not a great rating, it is not terrible either. Reviewers mostly enjoyed the performances of the two leads and the chemistry between them. On the other hand, many found the story to be weak and contrived.

The Sun Is Also a Star will probably not be coming to Netflix, but it might.

The Sun Is Also a Star was distributed by Warner Bros Pictures. Like Disney, Warner Bros is planning a new streaming service called WarnerMedia. We still do not know exactly when this new streaming service will come, but it is planned for some time in 2019. We also do not know how much it will cost. There are rumors that the price will be discounted for HBO customers.

On the other hand, there are also rumors that even with its new streaming service, Warner Bros may still offer its content to other providers such as Netflix and Hulu, so it is possible that The Sun Is Also a Star will come to Netflix. There is no way to know at this time, though.
