On April 26, 2019, the psychological thriller, The Intruder, will be opening in theaters in the United States. The director is Deon Taylor and the screenplay was written by David Loughery. It stars Dennis Quaid, Meagan Good, Michael Ealy, and Joseph Sikora. The film will be distributed by Screen Gems, which is a subsidiary of Sony Pictures.
The Intruder is about a young couple who buys their dream house in the Napa Valley They believe that this is the perfect home for them, but it turns out that the seller does not seem to want to let the house go. He infiltrates himself into their lives, which begins the psychological thriller.
The Intruder will be one of thirteen films to be released using 4DX technology as a result of a multipicture partnership between the South Korean CJ Group and Sony. This technology was originally launched in 2009, and it enhances the movie experience with 21 different sensory effects. Some of these effects include seats that move with the action on the screen, bursts of light, and other elements such as scents, wind, water, and snow.
At present, 4DX technology has been installed in 583 theaters across 60 countries. 4DX is starting to become more and more popular. In 2017, the 4DX network earned $245 million at the box office and in 2018, the earnings reached $250 million.
This new technology is part of a strategy to encourage people to go to theaters to watch movies. Some other films that will be released in this format pursuant to the partnership with Sony are another psychological thriller, Escape Room, Men in Black spinoff, Spider-Man: Far From Home, The Angry Birds Movie 2, and Charlie’s Angels.
As one might expect, the cost of tickets for 4DX experience is significantly higher than for a regular movie, often almost twice as much. There are many reviewers who feel like it is more of a gimmick than an actual enhancement of the movie-going experience.
In the future, however, it may become less expensive and a preferred way to see movies.
Will The Intruder Come to Netflix?
If you do not want to see The Intruder in theaters even with the new 4DX technology, will you be able to see it on Netflix?
Sadly, The Intruder (2019) is not likely to come to Netflix.
Because The Intruder is distributed by Sony Pictures, after its run in theatres, it will go to Starz according to Sony Pictures contract with this cable network. This contract has been in place since January of 2005.
On the other hand, if you are interested in scary movies, here are a couple that are on Netflix that you might want to consider:
- Til Death Do Us Part – about a woman who thought she was in an idyllic marriage, but it becomes abusive. This movie is about her struggle to get out in time.
- Malevolent – a Netflix film about a brother-sister team who fake paranormal encounters, but they take a job at a haunted house that turns out to be very real.
