Better Things is a comedy-drama about a divorced actress trying to raise three daughters by herself. The series was originally created by Pamela Adlon and Louis C.K. Adlon also plays Sam Fox, the leading role.
Better Things was created for television for FX and is currently in its third season on this network. The first season consisted of 10 episodes and ran from September 8, 2016 to November 10, 2016. The second season also consisted of 10 episodes and ran from September 14, 2017 to November 16, 2017.
This show was rocked by scandal when Louis C.K. was accused of sexual misconduct. In November of 2017, Louis C.K. confirmed that the allegations were true. At this time, FX canceled its contract with his production company, Pig Newton. Aldon was surprised by the confession, and afterward, she released a statement supporting the accusers and criticizing C.K.’s actions.
It was also reported that Adlon’s manager, Dave Becky had covered up for C.K. for years. At this news, Adlon fired him as well. She was then left to continue production on Better Things by herself.
The third season began on February 28, 2019, and there will be a total of 12 episodes. The last episode of the series will air on May 16, 2019.
Seasons 1 and 2 received excellent reviews from critics and many accolades. In 2016, Pamela Aldon was nominated for the 21st Satellite Best Actress in a Series, Comedy or Musical. Better Things also won the 7th Critics’ Choice Television Most Exciting New Series Award and the Peabody Entertainment Programming Award.
In 2017, Better Things received nominations for the Gotham Independent Film Awards, the 89th Primetime Emmy Awards, the 33rd TCA Awards, the Writers Guild of America Awards, and the Hollywood Music in Media Awards.
In 2018, it received nominations for the 75th Golden Globe Awards, the 34th TCA Awards, and the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards.
FX has renewed its contract with Pamela Aldon, and so Better Things will be returning for a fourth season in 2020.

Unfortunately, Better Things will not be coming to Netflix.
Seasons 1 and 2 of Better Things are available for streaming on Netflix’s competitor, Hulu. Season 3 will likely be going there as well after the season is over.
