The movie A Dog’s Way Home will be coming to theaters on January 11, 2019. This movie is based on the novel by the same name that was written by W. Bruce Cameron, and it will be released by Sony Pictures. This film was directed by Charles Martin Smith. The screenplay was written by Cameron himself along with Cathryn Michon.

The cast of A Dog’s Way Home includes Ashley Judd, Edward James Olmos, Alexandra Shipp, Bryce Dallas Howard as the voice for the dog, whose name is Bella, Wes Stud, Barry Watson, Tammy Gillis, and Jonah Hauer-King.

This movie is about the adventure of a dog named Bella who becomes separated from her human, Lucas. She travels 400 miles to find her person, and she becomes friends with a mountain lion along the way.

One of Cameron’s previous books was titled A Dog’s Purpose, which chronicles the story of a dog through several incarnations. This book was made into a movie by the same name which premiered on January 27, 2017 and was released by Universal Pictures. This movie suffered because of a scandal involving alleged mistreatment of one of the stunt dogs, and there was a video released by TMZ showing this alleged abuse. Its premiere had to be delayed, and the allegations were investigated. An independent third-party animal cruelty expert concluded that the set had adequate safety measures for the welfare of the animals and that the video had been deliberately edited to mislead the public.

A Dog’s Purpose grossed over $204 million worldwide, and it got mixed reviews from critics. There were some that loved it and others that criticized for the emotional effect that it had.

Happily, there is no similar scandal with respect to A Dog’s Way Home. It was produced and distributed by entirely different companies than A Dog’s Purpose. It is also primarily an adventure story rather than a drama.

Will A Dog’s Way Home be coming to Netflix?

A Dog’s Way Home will probably not be coming to Netflix.

The production company, Sony Pictures, does not have any contract with Netflix, but it does have one with its competitors, Starz. This contract has been in place since January of 2005. This gives Starz an exclusive first-run license agreement for all films distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment.

A Dog’s Purpose is not on Netflix either. It is available on Showtime or to rent or purchase from several different providers such as Prime Video, iTunes, Google Play, YouTube, and Vudu.
