Hamish Harding, a British explorer and billionaire, is among the five people inside a missing Titanic tourist submarine. The record-holding explorer announced he’d joined the expedition as a mission specialist. “A weather window just opened up and we are going to attempt a dive,” Hamish wrote alongside a Facebook photo of him signing a card.

Hamish Harding has two children with his wife, Linda Harding

Hamish and his wife, Linda Harding, share two children, Rory and Giles. He is also a father to two stepchildren, Lauren and Brian.

Brian announced Hamish’s disappearance via Facebook. “Hamish Harding, my stepfather, has gone missing on [a] submarine,” Brian wrote. “Thoughts and prayers for my Mom and Hamish Harding.” Brian added via a follow-up post: “Thoughts and prayers for my stepfather Hamish Harding as his submarine has gone missing exploring Titanic. Search and rescue mission is underway.”

Giles, who goes by @giles.explores on Instagram, has inherited Hamish’s passion for exploration. In early 2020, Giles became the youngest person ever to visit the South Pole. Giles joined Hames and Prince Ned Nwoko on the expedition to raise awareness about the Eradication of Malaria in Africa Project. He told Fifty Sky Shades:

“It was really awesome. I don’t normally get to feel temperatures like -30℃. I’m worried about climate change and I learned a lot more about that on this journey. I saw things I hope will be there for more kids to see in the future.”

Giles also joined his father on an exploration trip into the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench, the deepest point on Earth. “5 months ago, we finished our historic descent and traverse at the bottom of the Mariana Trench’s deepest point,” Giles captioned an August 2021 Instagram post. “Can’t believe it’s been that long already but absolutely can’t wait for our next mission/journey/adventure!”

The rest of the Harding clan are secretive, none more so than the family matriarch. Brian said he pulled down the Facebook posts announcing Hamish’s disappearance at Linda’s request. “For privacy, my mom asked me to delete all related posts,” Brian wrote. “Thanks for the support.”
