There is good news for fans of the popular drama, Greenleaf. If you are waiting to see what will happen next, you will not have to wait much longer, at least not in most regions.

About Greenleaf

Greenleaf was created by Craig Wright, and the executive producer is none other than Oprah Winfrey, along with Lionsgate Television and Clement Virgo. This highly popular and critically acclaimed drama tells the story of the Greenleaf family, who run a sprawling megachurch in Memphis, Tennessee. The patriarch of this family and megachurch is Bishop James Greenleaf, who is played by Keith David. His wife is Lady Mae Greenleaf, who is played by Lynn Whitfield. The other main character is their estranged daughter, Grace Greenleaf, who is played by Merle Dandridge.

In addition to these main characters, Oprah Winfrey herself makes frequent appearances as Mavis McCready, the sister of Lady Mae, who is a former blues club owner and a close confidant of Grace.

Season 1 debuted on Oprah Winfrey’s Network (OWN) on June 21, 2016 and begins with Grace Greenleaf returning home after 20 years following the mysterious death of her sister, Faith.

Season 1 was 13 episodes long and ended with Mac returning home and with Lady Mae wanting to preach at the “Women’s Day” event.

Season 2 debuted on OWN on March 15, 2017 and began with the aftermath of Mac’s release. This season was 16 episodes long and ended with the marriage between Bishop James and Lady Mae in serious trouble.

Season 3 aired on OWN on August 28, 2018, with the finale on November 21, 2018.

When will Season 3 of Greenleaf appear on Netflix?

The first season came to Netflix in most regions on March 3, 2017. In several regions, including the United Kingdom, it was marketed as a Netflix Original. It is not an Original in the U.S or Canada.

Outside of the U.S., Netflix has the right to air each season the day after the season finale on OWN. In the U.S., however, it takes a little longer to drop on Netflix.

As of now, the first two seasons are available on Netflix in the US and worldwide. The third season became available in the U.K. and many other regions outside the U.S. as of November 22, 2018, the day after the season finale.

It had been unknown when it would be coming to the U.S., but as of the writing of this article, Netflix has announced that Season 3 will be available to stream in the U.S. on December 21, 2018.

So, if you want to catch up on the first two seasons (which has a total of 29 episodes) before the 3rd season comes, you may want to start now!

What about Season 4?

There is more exciting news!

Not only is Season 3 about to drop on Netflix very soon, but Season 4 has already been commissioned. Bishop James and Lady Mae will lead the returning cast. This season will also feature the youngest member of the Greenleaf clan, Charity, played by Deborah Joy Winans. Oprah Winfrey will also be returning to the show for Season 4.

As of now, it is unknown when the premiere of Season 4 will air. Season 1 aired in June of 2016, and the second season followed soon after in the spring of 2017. Season 3 premiered on OWN in August of 2018, so perhaps Season 4 will launch in the spring of 2019.

We must wait until the end of the season for that season of Greenleaf to come to Netflix. As discussed earlier in this article, it arrives to the U.K. and other non-U.S. regions the day after the finale, and to the U.S. shortly after that.

As previous seasons have been either 13 or 16 episodes long, if Season 4 premiers in the Spring of 2019, then perhaps it will come to Netflix in the Fall of 2019. Of course, it is still too early to tell with any certainty, but it is something to look forward to.

If you like Greenleaf, other shows on Netflix that may interest you are the old classic TV series, Dallas or the more recent TV series, Scandal. You may also enjoy the movies, The Preacher’s Son or Come Sunday.
