Drake is one of the biggest music artists in the world today. The Canadian rapper and singer first gained popularity as an actor when he appeared in the TV series Degrassi: The Next Generation. He left the series in 2007 to pursue a career in music. Drake signed on with Young Money Entertainment in June 2009.

Drake’s style has evolved from hard-hitting rap tunes that earned him recognition to dance-hall inspired songs, which made him a global megastar. He recently released a single titled Toosie Slide, which is doing well around the globe. However, Drake’s most talked about revelation of 2020 has been the pictures he released of his son Adonis.

The photos posted on Instagram also featured Adonis’ mom Sophie Brussaux. This piece will break down Drake and Sophie’s relationship.

Sophie and Drake were first linked in January 2017

Drake and Sophie were first photographed together in Amsterdam in January 2017. In May 2017, Sophie claimed that she was pregnant with Drake’s child and that Drake had asked her to abort the child. According to Us Weekly, one of Drake’s representatives responded by stating:

“This woman has a very questionable background. She has admitted to having multiple relationships. We understand she may have problems getting into the United States. She’s one of many women claiming he got them pregnant. These claims have always proven to be unfounded. If it is in fact Drake’s child, which he does not believe, he would do the right thing by the child.”

Drake revealed that he was a father one year after Adonis was born

The couple’s son Adonis was born in October 2017, but Drake didn’t share the news about his birth. It is reported that Drake planned on revealing that he was a father during the announcement of a collaborative project he had with Adidas titled Adidon. However, in May 2018, Drake’s rival Pusha T revealed in a song titled The Story of Adidon that Drake had a secret son.

Pusha T also commented about Sophie’s past career as a porn star. Drake chose not to respond to Pusha’s track and instead acknowledged that he had a son on the song Emotionless. Drake rapped, “I wasn’t hiding my kid from the world, I was hiding the world from my kid.”

Drake revealed that he found it hard to admit that he was a father to the world and his mom. He stated on an episode of Lebron James’ The Shop:

“[I was] more scared to tell my mom because my mom has had real belief and real relationships with women in my life, like, over the course of my years. I’m sure she would expect or be elated if I were to have gotten one of those women pregnant… So it was tough for me to tell her that it’s somebody that she’s never met.”

Drake and Sophie seem committed to co-parenting

In his interview with Lebron James, Drake also stated that he was trying to build a relationship with Sophie and that he didn’t want his son to grow up hating his mother. He said:

“And I do want to be able to explain to my son what happened. But I don’t have any desire for him to, like, not love his mother… I don’t ever want the world to be angry at his mother. We have found ourselves in a situation and we are both equally responsible, and now I’m just really excited to be a great father. I have a son, he’s a beautiful boy.”

Drake seemed to contradict his statements in the interview when he referred to Sophie as a fluke in an early 2020 track titled When to Say When. However, when Drake released the pictures of Adonis, he chose to include Sophie in one of the photos. It could go to show that he is interested in co-parenting with Sophie. He also stated in the caption:

“I love and miss my beautiful family and friends and I can’t wait for the joyful day when we are all able to reunite. Until then please keep your lights on.”
