Yungblud (real name Dominic Richard Harrison) is an English singer and songwriter who gained fame following the release of his debut EP Yungblud in January 2018. The project contained previously released hit singles, including I Love You, Will You Marry Me, King Charles, and Tin Pan Boy. Yungblud released his second EP, The Underrated Youth, a year after releasing his debut album, 21st Century Liability

Weird!, Yungblud’s second album, peaked at number one on the UK Albums Chart and rose to 75th on the US Billboard 200.

Yungblud feels that his parents didn’t teach him how to love as they constantly argued and fought

Yungblud was born on 5th August 1997 in Doncaster, England, to Samantha and Justin Harrison. He grew up alongside two younger siblings: Jemima and Isabella.

Yungblud is famous for baring his soul in his music. The song Love Song features the following lyric: “Nobody taught me how to love myself so how can I love somebody else?” That line references the tumultuous relationship that his parents had. Yungblud told People that his parent’s fights sometimes turned physical:

“That song is so important to me because I never write love songs, man. I grew up in quite a violent home. My parents used to fight a lot and sometimes physically. And I was always loved by them, they always loved us, but they used to fight each other. And I was like, ‘If that’s love, I don’t want any fucking part of it.’”

Yungblud nearly lost his mom in a car accident just as his music career was starting to take off

Yungblud’s main musical influences growing up were his grandfather and father. “My grandad used to play tunes for me when I was growing up,” Yungblud said in an interview with SIDEWALK TALK POP. “It was important to him and he made it important to me.”

Yungblud’s rise as a global star coincided with a family tragedy. Yungblud almost lost his mother in a car accident, but thankfully, she recovered. The singer lights up with joy every time he talks about his mother in interviews, and it’s clear that he shares a deep affection for her. On 14th December 2018, he dedicated the following tweet to his mom:

“Ma mum told me girls are far too strong n far too smart to be underestimated coz she’s one of em. Her name is Sam btw. I fucking luv ma mum.”
