When will Netflix release Dead to Me season 2?

Netflix has announced that we will get Dead to Me season 2, but the streaming service is yet to announce the exact date of the release.

Season 1 dropped on Netflix in May, about a year after the show was first announced. If the second season follows the same production duration, we can expect season 2 to arrive sometime in mid-2020.

We will keep you posted when Netflix announces an official date for the season 2.

What is Dead to Me about?

Ever since Dead to Me aired, people have been giving it great reviews. It has been likened to great comedy shows such as Grace and Frankie and Dear White People. However, one major difference between Dead to Me and the above shows is that it is much darker.

The show follows the lives of two ladies who’ve recently lost their partners. Jen recently lost her husband after he was killed in a hit and run while Judy lost her fiancé a little while back. The two meet at a grief counselling session, and they start up a friendship.

However, Judy hides a big secret. At the end of the pilot episode, it is revealed that she is the one who killed Jen’s husband. It might seem like the showrunners revealed the secret too early, but the series doesn’t lose its allure.

It reveals numerous twists and turns as the two ladies deal with grief in their own ways. The show is almost like a funny funeral. It doesn’t focus on the dead, but rather the complexities of those that are left alive. The show will make you laugh, and it might also make you cry as well.

The two leads, Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini, deliver performances that make Dead to Me a definite binge. Also, nothing can prepare you for the massive cliffhanger at the end of season 1.

What to expect in Dead to Me season 2

We expect that Christina and Linda will return as the leads for season 2 of the show. There are many issues that we expect the show to address. Chief among those issues is how season 1 ended. The ending of season 1 led us to believe that Jen shot Judy’s ex-fiancé, Steve. However, the show’s creator, Liz Fieldman, told The Hollywood Reporter that everything isn’t as clear as it seems;

“I’ll just say that you don’t know that she shot him. Netflix will have to order a season two for us all to find out. Just like the rest of the show, it’s not exactly what you think it’s going to be.”

We can’t wait to see what the show has in store with regards to season 1’s last episode. We will also get to see whether Jen forgives Judy for killing her husband. Early signs suggest that pair will resolve their differences and become BFF’s again.

Jen and Judy’s lives are so intertwined that it’s difficult for one to imagine them as enemies. They have even committed murders that inadvertently helped the other party. Judy killed Jen’s cheating husband while Jen killed Judy’s lying ex, Steve. In a weird, murderous, and potentially humorous way, they are even.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Liz Fieldman revealed that the goal is to create a dynamic that tests the couple’s friendship. She also revealed that we can expect more darkness in season 2;

“This show will always be a show that explores the dark sides and the light sides of grief, loss, forgiveness and friendship. So suffice to say, there will be more darkness.”
