Armie Hammer’s Hollywood star dimmed instantly in 2021 following allegations of sexual assault, cannibalism, and emotional abuse. The upcoming Discovery+ documentary House of Hammer details the accusations and looks at the sordid history of the Hammer family men. The show’s synopsis reads:
“Debauchery. Deceit. Abuse. Addiction. Corruption. Over the course of five generations, the men in the Hammer family have more secrets and scandals than any vault can contain. Behind the money and power lies a dysfunctional dynasty with its male characters exhibiting the devastating consequences of privilege gone wild.”
This piece looks at the disgraced Armie Hammer now.
Armie Hammer is reportedly selling timeshares in the Cayman Islands
Armie Hammer told Vanity Fair he despised living in the Cayman Islands. Yet, as his life capitulated under the weight of the sexual assault allegations, Hammer returned to the islands to stay close to family. Hammer wrote on Instagram:
“Well… my ex (for a very good reason) wife is refusing to come back to America with my children. So I have to go back to Cayman… which sucks. Except there are a few silver linings.”
Hammer often asserted independence from his family’s fortune, and based on his current situation, it appears he was telling the truth. Armie told Vanity Fair that he was proud of getting by on his earnings, not his family’s wealth. However, back then, Armie still had an acting career bankrolling a luxurious life.
With his acting career gone, perhaps never to return, Armie has taken up a ‘regular’ job: reports say he sells timeshares at a hotel in the Cayman Islands.
Initial reports alleged Armie was working as a concierge at Morritt’s Resort. Variety cast doubt on the allegation, quoting a resort employee who said some hotel staff friendly to Hammer had attempted to prank guests by touting Armie as a concierge.
After TMZ reported that Armie was a timeshare salesman, not a concierge, an employee at the resort refuted Hammer’s employment, stating he occasionally ‘hangs around’ the location. A source later told Variety that the staff member was trying to protect Armie, who was indeed selling timeshares at the hotel:
“He is working at the resort and selling timeshares. He is working at a cubicle. The reality is he’s totally broke, and is trying to fill the days and earn money to support his family.”
Armie’s insistence on being around family sharply contrasts with his attitude in 2020 when he couldn’t stand his kin. Vanity Fair reported that Armie’s decision to desert his family convinced his ex-wife, Elizabeth Chambers, to file for divorce.
Hammer entered rehab following prolonged drug use
After his son’s birth, Armie Hammer admitted to Elizabeth that he’d cheated once (reports claim he cheated on multiple occasions from 2016 to 2020). The revelation hurt Chambers, but her commitment to therapy showed her desire to make things work with Hammer.
Armie’s desertion of his family during the pandemic was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Hammer exacerbated the situation by mistakenly sending a raunchy message meant for a lover to his frustrated and angry ex-wife.
Hammer, a confessed party-lover, openly indulged in drugs and women after Chamber’s divorce filing. He also got five tattoos within months, including the word ‘chaos.’ His private Instagram page chronicled the life of a man unrestrained.
He captioned a photo of a mannequin tied up: “If quarantine doesn’t start moving more quickly, I’m going to fuck this thing.” Alongside a picture of him taking a drug test, he wrote:
“All negative, bitches. My body is a finely tuned toxicant processing unit. To be fair, I had THC and benzos in my piss. But who doesn’t?”
Remember Hammer saying that going back to the Caymans had a ‘few silver linings’? His Instagram post featuring a lady in lingerie suggested she was among the ‘silver linings.’
Hammer has abandoned his party lifestyle, whether by necessity, willingness, or circumstance. According to Vanity Fair, Hammer spent six months in a Florida rehab center. Robert Downey Junior, who has opened up about his battle with addiction, paid for Hammer’s treatment.
The report stated that Downey Jr. pledged to provide financial and moral support to Hammer until he got back on his feet. Before returning to the Caymans, Hammer lived in one of Robert’s homes in Los Angeles.
Armie’s friends believe the allegations against him are exaggerated
The upcoming Discovery+ documentary will bring the accusations against him into sharp focus. We won’t delve into the allegations; however, we’ll provide one alleged message Armie sent to act as a primer for what you’ll likely see in the mini-series:
“Raping you on your floor with a knife against you. Everything else seemed boring. You crying and screaming, me standing over you. I felt like a god. I’ve never felt such power or intensity.”
Armie responded to the accusations via the following statement from his attorney, Andrew Brettler:
“All interactions between Mr. Hammer and his former partners were consensual. They were fully discussed, agreed upon in advance with his partners, and mutually participatory. The stories perpetuated on social media were designed to be salacious in an effort to harm Mr. Hammer, but that does not make them true.”
Hammer hasn’t responded directly to his accusers, but some of his friends have. They told Vanity Fair they believe the allegations against Hammer are exaggerated. A person who’s known Armie and his family for over two decades told the publication:
“He did some stupid things. You don’t send messages like that if you’re a famous movie star. You know your boundaries. Given his family history, I’m sure there is some damage there, but he is basically a sweet man – who apparently likes kinky sex.”
