Joseph Czuba will remain behind bars as he awaits trial for the murder of Wadea Al-Fayoume and the grievous assault on his mother, Hannan Shahin, in Plainfield, Illinois. Czuba, the victims’ landlord, attacked the pair due to the ongoing Hamas-Israel conflict and because they were Muslims. He allegedly believed that Shanin ‘was going to call Palestinian friends to come and harm them.’

According to ABC 7, prosecutor Michael Fitzgerald attacked Shahin after she suggested they pray for peace. “Czuba was angry at her over what was going on in Jerusalem. She responded by saying, ‘Let’s pray for peace.’ He didn’t give her time. He then attacked her with a knife,” Fitzgerald said.
