Vox Lux premiered at the 75th Venice International Film Festival on September 4, 2018. On December 7, 2018, it was released by NEON. It was directed by Brady Corbet and produced by Christine Vachon, Brian Young, Michel Litvak, and Andrew Lauren. Not only did Brady Corbet direct Vox Lux but also wrote the screenplay and created the story along with Mona Fastvold.
The story of Vox Lux begins in 1999, when two teenage sisters, Celeste Montgomery, played by Raffey Cassidy, and Eleanor “Ellie” Montgomery, played by Stacy Martin, survive a mass shooting. They perform a song about what happened, and this song launches their singing career. The second part of the movie is set in 2017 when Celeste is 31. The adult Celeste is played by Natalie Portman, who now has a teenage daughter, Albertine, who is also played by Raffey Cassidy.
Celeste’s work gets tied in with a new act of violence, and the film chronicles what happens to her and the effect that being a celebrity had on her life.
As of December 13, 2018, Vox Lux has grossed $189,211 at the box office. It has received mixed reviews. Most reviewers praised Natalie Portman’s performance. There are some who found the movie powerful and haunting. There were others who had difficulty with the mixture between a story about a celebrity and the violence and horrors that have been a part of the news all too frequently in recent years.
Will Vox Lux Come To Netflix?
If you want to watch Vox Lux on Netflix, will you be able to?
Whether Netflix is able to obtain movies for streaming depends largely on the production company involved and whether they have a contract with that company or whether a competitor has a contract instead.
Vox Lux was produced by NEON which is a relativity new private indie film production company. It was founded on January 13, 2017 by Tom Quinn and Tim League, and its headquarters are in New York City, New York. The first film released by NEON was Colossal on April 7, 2017.
NEON’s top-selling movie so far has been I, Tonya, which dealt with Tonya Harding and her connection with the attack on her rival, Nancy Kerrigan in 1994. I, Tonya grossed $53.9 million at the box office. Some of the other films that have been distributed by NEON are Ingrid Goes West, Beach Rats, Gemini, Borg vs McEnroe, and Monsters and Men.
Back in the Spring of 2017, NEON signed a multi-year licensing agreement with Hulu. According to this agreement, Hulu has exclusive rights to films distributed by NEON after they complete their runs in the theaters.
Because of this, Vox Lux will not be coming to Netflix.
There are some other shows on Netflix that you may find interesting, however, such as Gaga: Five Foot Two, which is the story of Lady Gaga. If you like Natalie Portman, some of her other films are on Netflix, such as Beautiful Girls, Cold Mountain, The Other Woman, V for Vendetta, Planetarium, and The Heyday of the Insensitive Bastards.
