Season 2 of Big Little Lies premiered on HBO on June 9, 2019. This is a dark comedy television series based on the novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty. Season 1 premiered on February 19, 2017, and ran through April 2, 2017. Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and Shailene Woodley star as three mothers of first graders living in what appears to be an idyllic seaside California town. Their lives are turned upside down when they become entangled in a murder investigation. The screenplay was written by David E. Kelley, who is also its creator. The film is being directed by Jean-Marc Vallée and Andrea Arnold.

The first season of Big Little Lies was extremely popular, averaging over one million viewers per episode. It has received an aggregate score on Rotten Tomatoes of 93%. Big Little Lies was originally conceived as a miniseries with only one season, but due to its popularity, it was renewed for a second season.

The second season is promising to be even more popular. The first four episodes have averaged 1.5 million viewers. As of the writing of this article, the second season has an aggregate score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. Meryl Streep has joined the cast as the mother-in-law of Celeste Wright, the character played by Nicole Kidman. There are currently three more episodes to go for this season, with the final episode scheduled to air on July 21, 2019.

As of now, there are no plans for a Season 3, and it seems like a third season is highly unlikely. When interviewed, David Kelley said that everyone was satisfied with the closure at the end of Season 2. Yet, Season 2 was a surprise as well, so we will see.

Will Big Little Lies be coming to Netflix in the future?

If you do not have HBO and want to see Big Little Lies on Netflix, you will be disappointed.

Big Little Lies will not be coming to Netflix.

Since the time that Netflix first began to offer streaming services, HBO has been adamant that it would never allow Netflix rights to its shows. Despite the ever-changing landscape in the streaming industry, HBO has not changed its mind to this day. So, unless there is a miraculous reconciliation between these companies, we will never see Big Little Lies or any other HBO show on Netflix.

HBO has its own streaming service, HBO NOW. You can also get an HBO add-on subscription through either Hulu or Amazon Prime Video.

You can also purchase the entire first season of Big Little Lies or buy individual episodes from Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, iTunes, Google Play, or Vudu.

Even though Big Little Lies will not be coming to Netflix, there are some other shows that you may enjoy. A couple of them are:

  • Dead to Me – a Netflix Original series about a friendship between a widow searching for the hit-and-run driver who killed her husband and “eccentric optimist who isn’t quite what she seems.”
  • Pretty Little Liars – a television series about four friends from high school who used to be close as they band together against a blackmailer who is threatening to expose their secrets.
