Chris Colfer is an American actor and author who gained global acclaim for playing the role of Kurt Hummel in Glee. He won many awards for his portrayal of the role, including the 2011 Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries or Television Film. Chris also appeared in Time’s 2011 list of 100 most influential people.

Chris Colfer was born in Clovis, California into a religious, Irish family. Colfer knew that he was gay from a young age, and he never struggled to hide it. Unfortunately, he was bullied so much that he had to be homeschooled. However, when he became famous, the bullies started bragging on social media that they had been great friends with him. “I thought, wow, this must be what someone feels like at their eulogy,” Chris told The New York Times.
Colfer grew up in a conservative neighborhood with local church groups that campaigned for a same-sex marriage ban. The attitude of his town-folk made him nervous about playing a gay character on Glee, but he went on with it anyway. Colfer is one of the few gay actors who didn’t have a ‘coming out’ moment, and he hopes that it will get to a point where sexuality doesn’t matter in Hollywood. He said:
“I really hope that one day it won’t be a thing, and we’ll get past this ridiculous – this really complex line between reality and fiction that always gets blurred. It’s crazy people don’t let actors work because they’re gay.”
