The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is the brainchild of Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino. The show features actors such as Rachel Brosnahan, Michael Zegen, Marin Hinkle, and Alex Borstein. The dramedy is set in the 1950s, and it follows the life of young Jewish housewife, Miriam ‘Midge’ Maisel.
For all her life, Maisel has been conditioned to desire the married life. Sure enough, Maisel gets a husband and two kids. Maisel’s husband wants to become a stand-up comedian, and she duly plays the role of cheerleader. Midge’s life turns on its head when her husband abandons her for another woman.
Maisel has to start from scratch in a world that taught her to be dependent on men. The future is uncertain for Maisel until she stumbles onto the stage at a nightclub and finds out that she can be a stand-up comedian. Midge decides to use this new-found talent to forge her path in life. However, she finds that it is not easy to make it in a male-dominated industry.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is one of the best dramedies available today. It has a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and it has bagged seven Primetime Emmy Awards. The show is definitely worth a watch.
