Phil Mickelson, aka Lefty and Phil the Thrill, etched his name into the history books in May 2021 by becoming the oldest major championship winner in the history of the PGA Championship. Three weeks before he turns 51, Phil delivered a masterful performance, edging out Brooks Koepka and Louis Oosthuizen to lift the Wanamaker Trophy.

Lefty has racked up 45 wins on the PGA Tour, including six major championships. He has spent 25 years in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking and is a life member of the PGA Tour. Phil hopes that his latest win proves that age isn’t a barrier to success.

Phil plans to move from San Diego, California, to Jupiter Island, Florida

Phil Mickelson is planning on moving from San Diego, California, to Jupiter Island, Florida. Mickelson and his wife Amy have acquired a plot on the star-studded Island, but according to Mickelson, construction is yet to commence.

“We still have to build,” Phil told Golfweek. “We have a lot. We haven’t built on it yet.” If he moves to Jupiter Island, Phil will live close to some of the most famous golfers in the world. Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Tiger Woods, and many others live on the Island. Donald Trump, an avid golfer, lists Jupiter Island as one of his winter weekend getaways.

Mickelson has already joined Michael Jordan’s exclusive golf club, The Grove XXIII. He stated on The Dan Patrick Show that he views his membership in the invite-only club as a great way to practice and play golf. Mickelson said:

“You have to be invited. Fortunately, I know a number of members there, and my wife and I just bought a lot fairly close, about 10 to 15 minutes away. So it’ll be a great place to play and practice.”

Phil’s move to Jupiter Island might be inspired by the State’s tax laws

“A lot of great things around the area,” a coy Phil told Golfweek when the publication asked him about the motivation behind his move. However, a quote by Phil in 2013 might shed some light on his move to The Sunshine State. Phil said:

“There are going to be some drastic changes for me because I happen to be in that zone that has been targeted both federally and by the state, and it doesn’t work for me right now. So I’m going to have to make some changes.”

The tax rate in California is undoubtedly higher in California than in Florida, as Florida has no state income tax. Phil won’t be the first golfer to move to Florida due to the State’s taxation laws. “I moved out of here back in ’96 for that reason,” Tiger Woods said in 2013.
