On November 21, 2018, the latest Disney movie, Ralph Breaks the Internet, came out in theaters in the United States. It came out in the United Kingdom on November 30, 2018. Will it come out on Netflix though? If so, when and where?
Read on to learn the latest information about Ralph Breaks the Internet and its future release on Netflix.
About Ralph Breaks the Internet
Ralph Breaks the Internet is the sequel of the 2012 Oscar-nominated Disney movie, Wreck-It Ralph. This ambitious movie follows the continued adventures of Wreck-It Ralph, a video game character at Litwak’s Family Fun Center & Arcade. It stars John C. Reilly as Wreck-It-Ralph and Sarah Silverman as Venellope von Schweetz. Many other Disney characters appear in this movie, and it also features many social media and internet brands.
Ralph Breaks the Internet has received a lot of good reviews. It speaks to both the good things and the bad things about the Internet. It is rated PG because of some of the action and because there is occasional rude humor. On the other hand, it paints a mostly sanitized version of the Internet. Most people will find something familiar in this movie, as it contains references to other Disney movies, video games, and the modern world of social media.
It has done very well at the box office, with current total sales exceeding $140 million.
Disney’s Contract with Netflix
The Walt Disney Company has had a contract with Netflix requiring that all new theatrical releases from Disney between 2014 and 2018 will be also be released on Netflix. That contract is expiring, and Disney is not renewing it. Instead, Disney has announced that it is releasing its own streaming services.
When this happens, not only will the new Disney films that are coming out after 2019 not be on Netflix, but the older Disney movies will probably disappear as well.
Luckily, Ralph Breaks the Internet is included in the contract. Because of this, it should come out on Netflix. It is likely to be the last Disney movie that will do so, however. According to plan, Disney will stop releasing its new films on Netflix starting in 2019.
Sadly, Wreck-It Ralph, the first movie in this series, was released in 2012, and so it is not covered by Disney’s contract.
When Will Ralph Breaks the Internet Come to Netflix
As mentioned earlier, according to Disney’s current contract with Netflix, Ralph Breaks the Internet should come out on Netflix. On the other hand, the release date has not been set as of the writing of this article.
Usually, movies appear on Netflix about 6 to 8 months after they are released in theaters. This means Ralph Breaks the Internet will appear on Netflix on June 11th, 2019.
When Disney movies appear on Netflix, they are not there forever. Most of the time, Disney movies are removed about a year and a half after they first come out on Netflix.
If this release follows the usual pattern, Ralph Breaks the Internet will first appear on Netflix in the United States and Canada. There is usually a second wave of releases, which will probably include the United Kingdom.
