Lance Reddick, the prolific actor and musician best known for his breakout roles in HBO’s The Wire and John Wick movie franchise, has died at 60 years old. His unexpected death came on March 17, 2023, as confirmed by his publicist Mia Hanson.

The announcement did not divulge many details about his passing except to state that it was from ‘natural causes’ and that police were called to his Los Angeles house. Lance is survived by his wife, Stephanie, and children Yvonne Nicole and Christopher.

“Lance will be greatly missed. Please respect his family’s privacy at this time,” said Hansen in the statement.

Lance Reddick had no public record of health issues but he was notably absent from the red-carpet premiere of John Wick: Chapter 4

Lance Reddick’s unforeseen death was made even more sudden by the fact that he appeared to be perfectly healthy in the days leading to it. The actor had been busy with the press tour for his upcoming movie John Wick: Chapter 4 and had given numerous interviews with the cast.

He was also slated to make an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show in the coming week. However, he was notably absent from the red-carpet premiere of the movie held at London’s Leicester Square on March 6, 2023.

While Lance never explained why he missed the premiere, it is now speculated that he may have fallen ill at the time, just over a week prior to his death. However, it should be noted that he did not have any publicly disclosed health issues.

On the contrary, Lance had been active on Twitter and Instagram, posting videos about his dogs and promoting the movie. His last social media post was made just a day before his death on Instagram, where he posted a picture of himself with his three dogs.

“On screen and off, it’s no surprise I love spoiling my dogs,” wrote the late actor under the post, the caption went on to endorse The Hard Rock Café’s John Wick movie-themed dog clothing.
