Bella Ramsey rose to international fame for portraying Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones. Ramsey, playing a no-nonsense leader, delivered a masterful performance, despite it being her first television role. Bella honed her craft at the Stagecoach Theatre Arts school in Loughborough for seven years.
Lyanna Mormont was Ramsey’s breakout role. Since 2016, Ramsey has worked non-stop, only taking an enforced break in 2020 due to the pandemic, which allowed her to complete her secondary education earlier than expected.
Ramsey is the star of the post-apocalyptic drama, The Last of Us, in which she plays Ellie.
Ramsey’s parents support her career from the sidelines
Bella Ramsey was born on 30th September 2003 in Nottingham, England. Her father, Alex, is a businessman and plays the trumpet. The identity of Bella’s mother is a mystery.
Ramsey’s parents support Ramsey’s career from the sidelines – they don’t appear on her social media pages or accompany Ramsey to events. The most we’ve seen of Ramsey’s mother is her thumb, which appeared on an Instagram photo Ramsey posted on 21st August 2020.
In November 2018, Bella said that her family helped her survive the chaos of the BAFTA Children’s Awards. “With the help of my incredible family, and noise canceling headphones, I got through it!” Ramsey wrote.
Ramsey told the Independent that she got into acting ‘by accident’. “I was doing it for fun and then it just happened, and I’m very thankful for it,” she said.
Ramsey said her relatives were overjoyed when they learned she’d landed the lead role in the fantasy drama television series The Worst Witch. She told The BBC:
“They are all very proud and supportive. When we got the phone call I was with my mum, sister, cousin and auntie, there was a lot of screaming and excited jumping, you could have filled a bathtub with the proud teardrops!”
Ramsey’s parents prevented her from watching some Game of Thrones scenes
Ramsey’s parents barred her from watching violent sections of Game of Thrones. However, they allowed her to watch her scenes, which she didn’t always enjoy.
“When I watch it back I’m like, ‘Turn it off!’ I pick out stuff, thinking I should’ve done that better,” Bella told The Independent.
