On December 21, 2018, the movie, Aquaman, will hit the theaters. The big question for us, however, is will Aquaman be coming to Netflix?

About Aquaman

Aquaman will be the long-awaited 6th installment in the series, DC Extended Universe.
The first five films in this series were:
Man of Steel (2013)
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Suicide Squad (2016)
Wonder Woman (2017)
Justice League (2017)

Aquaman will star Jason Momoa, who is also the star in the Netflix series, Frontier. Jason Mamoa appeared as the DC Comic’s Lord of the Seas in both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

In Aquaman, the kingdom of Atlantis, which is under the sea, is becoming more and more hostile to humans, who are polluting the oceans. Arthur Curry (Momoa) is faced with competing loyalties to Atlantis and the human world. In addition to Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Willem Dafoe, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Temuera Morrison, Dolph Lundgren, and Nicole Kidman are also featured.

The films of the DC Extended Universe have not all lived up to expectations. The only one of this series that has been a complete box office hit has been Wonder Woman. Early reviews have been good, but they have not been spectacular.

Still, it is highly probable that Warner Bros. has made changes to the movie based on the test screenings. We will not know for sure until Aquaman hits the theaters later this month.

There will be an early showing on December 15, and Amazon is allowing its Prime members to buy up to 10 tickets for this showing.

After Aquaman, Warner’s Bros. already has four more DC Extended Universe films scheduled to be released in the next couple of years. These are Shazam, to be released in 2019, and Birds of Prey, Cyborg, and Wonder Woman 1984, all scheduled to be released in 2020.

Will Aquaman come to Netflix?

As of now, there do not seem to be any plans to release Aquaman on Netflix. Most of the films in the DC Extended Universe have gone to HBO for a year more. Also, none of them are on Netflix at present.

Given all of this, it is highly unlikely that Aquaman will be on Netflix in the foreseeable future. What makes it more unlikely is that DC Universe has opened its own streaming service as well.

That is not to say that we should completely give up hope. There is, of course, still always a possibility that some time down the road, Netflix may obtain the rights to Aquaman and the other DC Extended Universe films.

In the meantime, there are many other shows to watch on Netflix in its place, however. If you are a fan of Jason Momoa, there are thee seasons of Frontier available. There are also several shows with DC superheroes, such as three seasons of Supergirl, four seasons of The Flash, and three seasons of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
