The New York drill scene is mourning the death of one of its brightest stars, Edot Baby (real name Edward Johnson). Edot was born in early February 2005 and released his first hit single, Ready 4 War, in 2020. In 2020, he released two projects: E With The Dot and You Started, I Finish.

Edot spoke to On the Radar about his musical inspirations: “For me, it was the melodic rappers growing up. When you’re in New York, it’s [drill music] all around you. Being that it’s all around you, I thought why not? Let me give it a try.”

It’s unclear why Edot Baby allegedly committed suicide

Reports claim that Edot Baby died due to a self-inflicted wound to the head. The rapper was reportedly rushed to the hospital, but doctors couldn’t revive him. 

It’s unclear why Edot allegedly took his life. His career was on the rise, and he appeared close to a major breakthrough. On 28th August 2022, he posted photos of a successful show alongside the following caption:

“LASTTT NIGHT WAS A MOVIEEE. IF YOU WASS THERE YKKK. IT’S ONLY UP FROM HERE BROOKLYN NY!!!! THANK YOU FOR SHOWING ALLA LOVE.”

The death has left Edot’s friend DD Osama, who lost his younger brother in July 2022, devastated. DD’s brother, Notti Osama, was stabbed by a rival at a subway station following an altercation. Osama’s Instagram profile picture is a photo of himself sandwiched by his departed brother and friend. 

Edot’s fans are crushed by his death and have taken to Twitter to express their thoughts. @BlastGoated wrote:

“RIP edotbaby check on ya mans fr. Mental health is very real. Never bottle up your emotion fr talk to someone and shit if no one there for you write it down talk to yourself. Get clean don’t use drugs to ignore your mental health.”

Unverified reports suggest Edot didn’t commit suicide and that his girlfriend set him up

Some reports claim the police are still investigating Edot’s death and haven’t officially ruled it a suicide. Edot’s girlfriend is reportedly under investigation as she allegedly hid the gun and took Edot’s jewelry.

“Y’all watch out for ya ‘girlfriends’. Niggas never know when they could be the line, or anything. Just heard Edot Baby died due to a potential suicide. Others say he got lined and his girl used suicide as a cover up. Know ya surroundings, cause the ones closest cause the most damage.”
