Medici is a show about a famous Italian family which served as bankers of the Pope during Renaissance Florence. Each season follows the family through a specific period in history. The show is quite popular on Netflix even though it has received criticism for historical inaccuracies.
The series deals with family drama and dealings after the death of the family patriarch, Giovanni de’ Medici. There are currently two seasons of Medici on Netflix. This piece will focus on everything about Medici season three on Netflix.
When will Netflix release Medici season 3?
We expect episodes of Medici season 3 to arrive on Netflix soon. The series ended in December 2019, and we expect Netflix to add the show to its catalogs in the early months of 2020. Sadly, season 3 will be the final season of the show.
Medici is currently available on Netflix in the following regions: Canada, India, Lithuania, Slovakia, Thailand, the UK, and the USA.
What happened in Medici season 2?
Medici season 2 presented a deviation from the first season in that the series ditched historical accuracy and instead focused on the drama and tension within the infamous Italian family. Season 1 mostly focused on the rivalry between Cosimo and Rinaldo, and the aftermath of their father’s death.
Season 2, however, focused more on the rivalry between the Medici and Pazzi family. We saw Jacopo de’ Pazzi lead his family in undermining everything that the Medici attempted. In the midst of everything, Lorenzo saw an opportunity to grab power by deceiving his father and making himself head of the bank.
However, Lorenzo’s new position came with numerous debts which threatened to undermine him. Lorenzo spent most of season 2 making deals and alliances in an attempt to restore the Medici name to its former glory. The series also focused on Lorenzo’s love interests, but the main narrative of the series revolved around his business dealings.
As in season 1, art and beauty played a major role in season 2. We finally got the see the complete Florence cathedral dome. Season 2 had high ratings, but a section of fans hated that the story lacked historical accuracy.
What to expect in Medici season 3
The show’s creator, Frank Spotnitz, promised that season 3 would be much darker than season 2. This should mean that we are set for another entertaining season, but it also means that the series won’t be historically accurate. We expect Medici season 3 to continue its focus on Lorenzo de Medici.
Season 3 will most likely focus on Lorenzo seeking vengeance after the brutal murder of his brother Giuliano. Lorenzo will come up against Riario and Pope Sisto IV in his pursuit of vengeance. It won’t be easy for him, however, as the people of Florence continue to show discontent.
The people will find inspiration in their religious leader, Girolamo Savonarola. Girolamo is a real historical character who took over the town of Florence after leading a rebellion against the rich in the 1400s. Lorenzo’s love life will also come into play again, and we will see him fall in love with the daughter of the Duke of Milan.
Season 3 will also introduce us to Giuliano de Medici’s illegitimate son, Giulio. Giuliano’s lover was pregnant when he was assassinated, and after giving birth, Lorenzo adopted the child and raised him. The Medici’s love of art will feature again in season 3, and we will be introduced to Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci.
