Mr. Meat, who you must outsmart to rescue a girl named Amelia Clark, is the ruthless star of the Mr. Meat game. The character has a pet pig and excellent hearing – he’ll get to you swiftly as soon as you drop something. Yet, his hearing is his biggest weakness, as you can use sounds to mislead him.

Mr. Meat is popular because it’s challenging but not as terrifying as other horror video games. The premise is also quite simple: rescue Amelia while avoiding Mr. Meat and his pet.

The game’s premise might be simple and not that scary, but some TikTokers claim there’s a more sinister true story behind Mr. Meat.

The claim that Mr. Meat is based on serial killer Joe Metheny seems false

Some TikTokers claim that Mr. Meat is based on the deceased serial killer Joe Metheny. The photo of Joe used to compare him to Mr. Meat has convinced some that he’s the character’s inspiration.

Metheny looks menacing with his stained shirt, arm tattoos, outstretched arms, curled fingers, extended tongue, and stained teeth. He and Mr. Meat look alike, but I reckon Mr. Meat looks less menacing.

Joe infamously killed his victims and stored the fleshiest parts of their bodies in freezers. He then mixed the flesh with beef and pork, forming them into little patties he sold at a barbecue stand outside his home.

“The human body tastes very similar to pork,” Joe explained why people didn’t figure out the meat had a different taste. He continued:

“If you mix it together no one can tell the difference … so the next time you’re riding down the road and you happen to see an open pit beef stand that you’ve never seen before, make sure you think about this story before you take a bite of that sandwich.”

“I’m a very sick person,” the 6’1” lumber worker told police as they arrested him. He was convicted of two murders but claimed to have killed 13 people. Metheny was found dead in his prison cell in Maryland in August 2017.

Despite the resemblance between Metheny and Mr. Meat, there’s no evidence the serial killer inspired the game character. Until we get an answer from the developers, Kalispo Games, we conclude that the rumors linking Joe Metheny to Mr. Meat are false.
