Chris Pincher’s resignation following accusations that he drunkenly groped two men at a late June 2022 party sparked the beginning of the end for beleaguered British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Despite initial denials, it emerged Boris Johnson knew of sexual misconduct allegations against Chris when the PM appointed him as deputy whip in February 2022.
Pincher’s resignation letter read: “Dear Prime Minister. Last night I drank far too much. I’ve embarrassed myself and other people which is the last thing I want to do and for that I apologize to you and those concerned. I think the right thing to do in the circumstances is for me to resign.”

The sexual assault allegations against Pincher have raised questions about his sexuality and sparked conversations about gay sexual harassment in the halls of Westminster.
According to a report by Politico, the University of Carolina in 2015 concluded that there were more openly gay MPs in Britain than in any other country. In 2020, PinkNews reported that 56 out of 650 MPs were openly gay.
The numbers represent a triumph for the LGBTQ+ community but have contributed to the rise of gay sexual harassment. Politico reported that a handful of gay MPS tend to employ exclusively young gay men. A Cabinet minister told the outlet:
“There’s a real problem in Westminster in general – not just in the Conservative Party – around the gay scene. It’s a lot of alcohol and young gay researchers either flirting with or being subject to predatory advances by senior gay men.”
