Shetty, a former monk, made a name for himself as a video producer for Huffington Post. In 2017, he appeared in Forbes’ 30 under 30 Europe, and a year later, he made the most viewed Facebook video of the year. Jay launched On Purpose in early 2019, with his first celebrity on the show being his wife Radhi Devlukia-Shetty.
This piece will look at Jay Shetty’s wife, Radhi Devlukia-Shetty.
Radhi lost her self-confidence as a child due to bullying but she regained it through meditation
Roshni Devlukia was born on 30th July 1990 in England. Her family fondly referred to her as Radhi, and the name stuck. Radhi always stood out as the chubby one in the family, but it didn’t matter to her as her parents cultivated a culture of self-love.
However, Radhi’s perspective changed when her schoolmates started to bully her because of her chubby frame. Radhi didn’t lose her sense of self-love, but her self-confidence suffered a major blow. It hurt her inside when she realized that her value to people was hinged on her outside appearance. She told Women of Impact:
“You end up seeing people around you and the girls around you and the type of people that end up getting liked or disliked. And you realize that has a lot to do with your physical form. I was either bullied about it or left out of things because of it.”
The biggest effect of the bullying is that Radhi started tailoring her life to fit what others expected of her. Radhi’s desire to appease others prevented her from living a fulfilling life as she always thought about what other people would think.
Devlukia regained herself when she discovered the power of meditation. She’d grown up in a spiritual home, but she never truly got in touch with her spirituality before meditation became part of her daily routine. With time, Radhi regained her self-confidence, and her self-love grew to previously unknown heights. Through meditation, Radhi also found her love for serving people. She told Coco Eco Magazine:
“What is life without service? That’s the best thing I learned in this Vedic culture and on this path, is that everything is about service and we get so much joy from serving other people than we do in taking. Whatever we can do to facilitate us being the best versions of ourselves is such a beautiful practice and meditation to keep throughout your life.”
Radhi Devlukia spreads motivation through social media and her website. She has been posting motivational content on Instagram for a while, and she recently launched a YouTube channel with tons of inspiring videos.
Devlukia’s parents and grandmother continue to inspire her love for healthy cooking
Devlukia affectionately refers to her mom and dad as Momma Bear and Poppa Bear, respectively, and her grandmother as Superstar BAA. The three personalities inspired Radhi’s love for cooking. Thanks to them, everyone in the household claims to be a master chef. “My grandmas, my mum, my dad and my sister all got some serious skills in the kitchen,” Radhi writes on her website.
Radhi refers to her mom as her biggest influencer, and it was she that inspired Radhi to study nutrition and dietetics at university. After getting married, Radhi and Jay got a house near Momma Bear’s residence as Radhi felt that she still had a lot to learn from her mother. However, three weeks after moving in, the couple left for New York and later LA. Despite the distance, Radhi still cooks with her mom and grandmom. She told Coco Eco Magazine:
“I am cooking my breakfast while my Mum is cooking her lunch, and we’re always on the phone to each other. I call her for everything and she’s actually become one of my bestest friends!”
Moving to the USA turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Radhi as she discovered Divya Alter, an owner of an Ayurveda restaurant in New York City. To learn as much as she could from Divya, Radhi offered to help out in the kitchen. “She is so authentic in her practice, and I just fell in love with it,” Devlukia said.
Radhi easily incorporated Ayurveda into her life because it nourished her body as well as her mind and soul. “I learned about it through my spiritual and Ayurvedic practice which are both intertwined,” Devlukia revealed. She added:
“It’s all about a practice of conscious eating and a mindful practice to do with cooking, and the end of it is the Gratitude prayer. The mindset and the energy you put in your food has the possibility to affect your body. It’s all about finding pockets of your day when you find mindfulness, and cooking and eating should be a part of that.”
Radhi and Jay met when he was a monk and got married in a low-key 2016 ceremony
Interestingly, Jay met Radhi’s mom before he meeting his future wife. While learning to be a monk, Jay was instructed to take Radhi’s mom through a particular routine. It was the first time that Jay had been entrusted with such a task. Radhi’s mom liked Jay, and she gave him Radhi’s contact so he could get in touch with her.
Shetty’s main focus at the time was spirituality, so he handed the number down to his sister. Radhi and Jay’s sister became first friends, and through her, she met Jay. At the time, Jay was a tattooed monk who thought little of romance, but Radhi saw him as a person she could date in the future. Radhi revealed on On Purpose that she was in awe of Jay:
“I was in awe of him. He also looked really cool – he had like a bald head. He didn’t look like the type of person that would be thinking about these things because he had tattoos and a bald head, but then he was in robes. And I said, ‘This is really, really cool, but weird at the same time.’”
Radhi told Jay’s sister that she was interested in him, and Jay’s sister spilled the beans. It was then that Jay started seeing Radhi as a prospective partner. As time went by, Jay left the monks and grew closer to Radhi.
The couple wed in a low-key 2016 ceremony. Due to Jay’s hectic schedule, the couple didn’t have their honeymoon until August 2019. “Thanks for going over and above for me even when you don’t have to u always do,” Radhi captioned a photo of their delayed honeymoon. Radhi and Jay regularly display their strong bond via social media. On 27th December 2020, Radhi attached the following caption alongside a photo of the couple:
“Make someone laugh or smile today… it really will bring YOU so SO SO much joy to bring joy to another… and YOU @jayshetty… thank you for always CONSTANTLY trying to make me smile or laugh in any way possible… LEMME TELL YOU AAALLL. MANS GOT BANTER & JOKES FOR DAYSS.”
